Abstract
This article presents a detailed analytical description of the organization of the traditional kinship system on the Oyo Yoruba community of Oshogbo, a town of over 70,000 persons at the time of the research. This work might be considered as a supplement to 7: Lloyd, in so far as it discusses the same general subject matter but in greater detail as evident in the specific community under study. Traditional history, names, status, personal relationships, religious and political ties of the kinship group are some of the aspects of the culture which are discussed in conjunction with the author's analysis. The author was formerly lecturer in anthropology at Haverford College and Columbia University, and was associated with the Department of Anthropology, University College, London and Temple University.
