Abstract
This document is, as the title of the series suggests, a summary of information on the culture of the Yoruba-speaking peoples. As such, it does not present a detailed ethnography, but rather gives the principal features of the Yoruba as a whole and a few of the distinctive characteristics of the primary sub-groups. The author organizes his material in two main parts, the first treating the Yoruba in general and the second, the sub-groups. Each part is subdivided into sections on tribal groupings and demography, language, physical environment, economy, social organization and political structure, and main cultural features. The author recognizes the unequal value of information available on the various groups, which prevents an exact adherence to his subheadings throughout; nevertheless he is probably as consistent in his presentation as possible. Especially valuable is the extensive bibliography following the text. The author was a well-known British social anthropologist.
