A Twi relationship system

Abstract
The systems described in this brief article were collected in 1925 from a Twi student at Columbia University. The informant was a native of Apegusu in the Gold Coast. A study of terminology showed that there were two systems in use, a simple classificatory system, and a specialized legalistic terminology in which the principle of generation was partially discarded in order to reflect the laws of inheritance. Mead compares this system with the Ashanti system collected by Rattray. Mead was then Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University.
