Abstract
This is a view of Akyem political and other institutions from the standpoint of a native with considerable formal education in England. Danquah bases his work on personal observations and research, including access to the state archives at Kibbi. Some of the principal subjects which the author discusses are: governmental organization and activities, including the enstoolment and destoolment of state and local chiefs; customs relating to marriage and divorce; various aspects of property, including rules of inheritance; non-political institutions; and funeral customs. Several appendices and an extensive index which includes many of the native terms used add to the value of the source.
