AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This paper is concerned with the use of formal names, particularly nicknames, as terms of reference rather than address in the Scottish Outer Hebrides. Situational factors which trigger the use of alternative names are discussed. The focus in this report is the village of Shawbost on Lewis.
