Abstract
This is a study of voluntary rural-urban migrations from the village of Vasilika in the Greek province of Boeotia to the city of Athens between the years 1930-1965. Freidl investigates the specific '…local, social and cultural conditions under which the selection of migrants occurs, the social and cultural conditions which affect the outcome of the migration at the point of destination, and the effect on both sets of circumstances of the changing economic, social and political conditions of the national system which provides the environment within which the migration takes place' (p. 363).
