Abstract
In this study Dubisch describes her early days of fieldwork at the village of Falatados on the island of Tinos, and her initial impressions of women's status and gender roles on the island. She concludes this article with a brief commentary on changing attitudes in anthropology regarding gender roles and the relationship between men and women.
