This is an account of the travels in Montenegro by an officer in the French army, and Governor of the Province of Cattaro. Invited to visit the country by the Montenegrin Bishop (Vladika), the author travels by foot into the rugged interior noting all he observes, including landscapes, plants, villages, dress, land use, fishing, and exports. He relates recent wartime exploits of the Montenegrins against the Turks. Also, he relates various personal conversations with locals, including the Vladika, and most interestly, witnesses the adjudication of a feud.
