Anthropos57Published In 1962 • Pages: 670-677

By: Sarkar, S. S..

Abstract
This article is a synthesis of data on the Jarawa of the Andaman Islands (including the North Sentinel and South Andaman Jarawa), obtained from Sarkar's work and that of others. Sarkar's data are based on observations on their material culture; he never actually met any Jarawa. Sarkar discusses government punitive expeditions against the Jarawa and suggests ways of improving relationships.
