Abstract
This article provides a brief account of economic, political and social changes in an Indian village located in the south-eastern section of the Sate of Uttar Pradesh. Based on ethnographic information collected in 1950, the authors discuss a wide variety of changes that have occurred over the past 40 or so years. The focus includes changes in the size and composition of resident occupational castes, transportation, agricultural tools, farming methods and crops raised, diet and cooking methods, material culture and house types, land ownership and wage conditions.
