Abstract
The village of Gangaikondan which lies 2.5 miles northwest of the railway station of the same name in Tinnevelly District, India, is the focus of this socio-economic study. Ethnographic data include information on demography, land use, land tenure, tenancy, agriculture, animal husbandry, taxation, income and production, and castes. Natarajan discusses how these various cultural attributes of the Tamil society have changed with time (from 1881-1937).
