Abstract
This article is an overview of Garo oral literature and its poetic formand language. Oral literature includes epic narrations, recounting the Garo migration from Tibet, and songs sung at ceremonies and festivals. The poetry makes uses of metaphor, a rich vocabulary, and metered rhythm. The style is 'highly elliptical,' void of any connective and explanatory words, and redundant phrases.
