AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This short monograph deals with various aspects of Garo culture (such as clothing, dwellings, tillage, agricultural rites, practices of curers, marriage, property and inheritance rights, disputes, religious beliefs and funeral rites), while paying more attention to the language and its structure (including semantics, grammar and phonology). The book is based on the author's diary notes taken while touring the Garo Hills of the state of Assam on official duties and, quoting the author, 'it does not at all pretend to be a thorough study,' nor was the material gathered for this purpose.
