By: Ingersoll, Jasper Cooke.
Abstract
This document examines the relationship between merit-making and identity formation in the village of Sakathiam. The subjects discussed are merit-making and assuming responsibility, identifying self and village in terms of merit, merit as a cause and effect of conduct, and identity in karmic perspective. Ingersoll concludes that the concept of karma and the practice of merit-making do give Thai villagers a framework for individual and commercial identity.
