Abstract
This is a substantive description of divinatory and magical practices, practitioners and cults, mostly of Taoist affiliation, in Tonkin. Included are materials on paraphernalia associated with these practices, including plates of magical diagrams, and studies of laws against sorcery and against corruption of the populace and the civil service by diviners and magicians. There are also examples of myths associated with the divinatory cults. Dumoutier, formerly Director of Education in Hanoi, has produced numerous monographs on the religious and general ethnography of Annam.
