AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is an article containing precise information on tools and simple machinery used in Tonkin agriculture. The author was acting Director of the Trade School at Hanoi and in this capacity, apparently, he collected the descriptions of the implements. In the article appear descriptions and drawings of the implements themselves, as well as information as to the way they are obtained, made and operated by the farmers. The tools described are those used in the production of rice, cotton, sugar cane, and those used in tilling the soil and irrigating it. The article describes the harvesting apparatus and that used in the initial refining processes such as the winnowing of rice and the ginning of cotton.
