Abstract
P. Guilleminet, a civil servant administrator in Annam, presents a study of the norias or water wheels used for irrigation in Quang-Ngai. He has made use of ancient Annamese texts to trace their origin and history in this province where they are of such importance that particular ceremonies are associated with them and they are governed by a special code of regulations. The economic value of the noria as an irrigation machine and as a form of industrial enterprise is discussed in detail.
