Abstract
This paper is the result of a questionnaire submitted to Dr. De, a Vietnanese obstetrician, visiting in the United States. Dr. De received his M.D. from the University of Hanoi in 1944. After 1946 he was with the Saigon Maternity Hospital as resident physician, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. In 1951 he received a grant to do research in U.S. hospitals and universities. As a Western-trained specialist who was equally familiar with traditional Vietnamese practices, he was qualified to comment on this subject. The questionnaire was submitted and the results presented by Margaret Coughlin, a research assistant with Human Relations Area Files.
