Abstract
This essay explores the meaning of the spread of an urban style of housing to rural areas. The essay contains descriptions of the traditional rural house style, the new urban house style, and geomancy and the orientation of buildings. Ahern concludes that the choice of the urban vs. the rural house style is related to the occupation of the household and expresses attitudes about those occupations.
