Abstract
Although mostly a discussion of Yaruro religion, the author begins with a historical overview of the people, including the work of past ethnographers, in order to set the record straight about the variation in Yaruro subsistence activities, including agriculture. The author examines the cosmology, religious ceremonies, and therapeutic rituals of the Yaruro, arguing that in spite of modern influences, Yaruro religion has remained intact preserving a core culture and identity. Healing rituals ([n]tonghe[/n])are led by shamans and the propitiatory religious ceremonies ([n]o'ara[/n]) by either a male or female celebrant.
