Abstract
Drawing on a new spatial analysis of the locations of Rapa Nui [n]moai[/n] statues, this study identifies 89 statues not associated with ceremonial centers or quarries. Once designated as "in transport," the author instead interprets these inland statues as boundary markers, a previously advanced theory based on ethnohistorical clan territories and boundaries.
