Abstract
This source is largely concerned with a definition of ethnohistory and an explication of ethnohistorical methodology. It serves as a reference to the methodology Urbanowicz used in his historical reconstruction of Tongan culture. In a few cases he gives examples of the early missionary writings and the critical methodology he employed in utilizing them.
