Effects of acculturation on the vicissitudes of the aggressive drive among the Apaches of the Mescalero Indian Reservation

International Universities Press5 • Published In 1972 • Pages: 40-82

By: Boyer, L. Bryce, Boyer, Ruth MacDonald.

Abstract
Using psychoanalytically oriented investigative interviews, Rorschach tests, and participant observation, the authors describe both aboriginal and modern techniques of socialization and their psychological implications. Their thesis is that 'earlier practices successfully molded the derivatives of the aggressive drive, whereas those of today fail to accomplish that major task'. The approach and interpretation are distinctly psychoanalytic.
