Abstract
This article contains a description of a girls' puberty ceremony held in 1939. The author, an Apache living on the Mescalero Reservation, does not attempt to go beyond the descriptive level. In addition to details about the ceremony, there is information on the Mountain Spirit dance groups that perform during the puberty rite.
