Abstract
This study, based almost entirely on government documents, details the forced movement of the Sauk and "Meskwaki" (Mesquakie Fox), from Iowa to Kansas in the fall of 1845. Gourley provides information on the complications and intricacies of the journey, including such data as how they traveled, what routes they took, and the difficulties facing the U.S. government in finding land in Kansas upon which they could settle.
