The Blackfoot: buffalo hunters of the North American Plains
Habitat, economy and society ; a geographical introduction to ethnology • London • Published In 1950 • Pages: 45-68, 475-476
By: Forde, Cyril Daryll.
Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive, introductory analysis of Blackfoot culture and social organization. Forde's attention focusses mainly on the concrete aspects of Blackfoot subsistence and settlement activities; less information is presented on religion and ceremonial. Emphasis is placed on changes resulting from the introduction of the horse and upon buffalo hunting by males, rather than on a wider range of hunting and gathering activities.
