Abstract
Drawing on two surviving medical handbooks, the author discusses different medical practitioners (doctors, conjurors, and diviners), types and causes of diseases, and cures. “The Diagnostic Handbook” by Esagil-kīn-apli, a court scholar during the 2nd Dynasty of Isin (a relatively minor successor of the Middle Babylonian Kassite Dynasty), was used as the standard reference through the first millennium BC.
