Abstract
Kfar Hefer, the major focus of this monograph, is one of the oldest co-operative farming villages (MOSHAV, [pl.] MOSHAVIN) in Israel. In this study Baldwin attempts to show how Kfar Hefer, as a MOSHAV, as a community, and as a collection of groups and individuals, pursued policies and reacted to events both in the village and outside in the wider Israeli scene. These responses are interpreted by the author in the light of village history; MOSHAV ideology; co-operative and customary law; demography; and the economic facts of life (p. 221).
