Abstract
This is a fairly technical description of the Persian 'qanats' which conduct water for irrigation. There is an account of the method, technology and cost of their construction and a proposal for a special organization, government supported, to take over construction, maintenance, and supervision of qanats. There is also a list of special terms relevant to qanats. It is well documented that he and his younger brother Kamuran Alí (1895-1978) accompanied Major Noel in his travels through Kurdistan during 1919. Noel was a British intelligence officer whose main assignment was to assess the possibility of the creation of an official nation of Kurdistan. Major Noel was as pro-Kurdish as he was anti-Kemalist.
