Abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of Basque isolation and the role of the community study as a topic of ethnographic interest in isolation research analysis. In the first part the author examines the evidence for Basque isolation in terms of linguistic and blood type analysis. The evidence seems to indicate a strong correlation in Basque antiquity with numerous contacts between Basque and non-Basque peoples, at least as far as the linguistic data indicates. The blood group gene frequency evidence is not as clear. The second part of the paper deals in a more theoretical manner with the propriety of the community study as a unit in isolation research. This section deals in large part with suggestions for future work in this field.
