Abstract
This is a description of Shona culture written from a philosophical standpoint. Much of the discussion centers around the concept of [n]ukama[/n], the close family relationship or brotherhood between members of the extended family, group, or clan. In addition to frequent digressions by the author (including personal reminiscences) there are some data on cultural goals, family life, religion, urban-rural differences, and acculturation.
