Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is an intergenerational study of the values associated
with migration, based on a survey of one hundred rural and urban informants. The survey
included situational questions that presented a dilemma pitting the desires, interests and
wishes of young adults against their parents (self-interest versus filial duty). Views
regarding filial ties and migration differed according to residence (rural or urban) and
socioeconomic status. The author also considered the variables of age, marital status,
length of residence, and family residence pattern.
