Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document The author relates incidents of adultery and thievery which occurred during his stay among the Wogeo. The attitude of the culprits and of the community toward each of the crimes committed, and the eventual disposition of the case are recorded in some detail. The author concludes that the reaction to crime is not a unanimous rising up in support of accepted moral principles; it instead depends on individual motivations to take action (or to find extenuating circumstances not to) according to the particular circumstances that relate him to the principals.
