The material for this brief article is mostly drawn from
the author's field research among the Azande. Herein is information on Azande
ethnozoological concepts, including traditional views, attitudes and ideas about the fauna
in the Azande habitat. The article treats how the Azande classify animals taxonomically,
food taboos and avoidances regarding animals, mythical, magical and sacred significance of
animals, and ideas about animal behavior patterns. The method of presentation is wholly
descriptive (in recording the textual statements of the informant) with no interpretive
analysis.
