Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This source focuses on describing the ways in which the
Semai enculturate their children to be non-violent. As the author views the problem of
enculturation into non-violence, the process begins before the child's birth. Thus, the
author examines concepts and practices related to pregnancy, childbirth, and infant and
childhood training. In the examination of childhood training the author discusses, among
other things, the teaching of fear and caution and the treatment of aggression in
children.
