Agricultural development of the Alexis Stoney

Abstract
This is an account of the failed attempt to settle a band of Stoney hunters and trappers on the Alexis Reserve and transform them into farmers and stock raisers. Bad weather, under-funding, and a continued market in furs were some of the factors that undermined the program. The Stoney saw farming and stock raising as supplemental, something they could add to their subsistence mix. However, both farming and stock raising required year round committment to suceed, even under the best climatic conditions.
