Adoption practices of the Blood Indians of Alberta, Canada
Plains anthropologist • 19 (63) • Published In 1974 • Pages: 25-33
By: Lismer, Marjorie, Goldfrank, Esther Schiff.
Abstract
This article provides an extensive analysis of several distinct types of adoption practices among the Blood Indians. In the course of describing these practices, Lismer contributes insights into Blackfoot notions of kin and family relationships which suggest that the exchange of children among households is a normative rather than unusual procedure.
