Abstract
This article is a discussion of Wolof customary laws regarding marriage and divorce as applied in the native courts and modified French decrees. Part I discusses the conditions necessary for the establishment of marriage and the sanctions imposed for the observance of these conditions, the formalities required for each of the successive steps leading to marriage, and the rights and duties of marriage partners. Part II discusses the conditions recognized by customs and law for the dissolution of marriage, the procedure to be followed, and the rights and obligations of the divorced persons.
