Abstract
This paper discusses patterns of residence in a Cambodian rural village. The focus is factors affecting residence choices in a baliteral system characterized by flexiblity of behavior. It shows that there is no consistent weighting of either either the male or female lines in factors affecting residence choices such as property ownership and inheritance, and kinship terminology and expected behavior towards diffeent categories of kinsmen. More importantly, there are no larger, organized kin groups to affect residence pattern. Insteady, each person recognizes only a personal kindred of bilaterally related individuals whom he/she may choose to call for aid in variaious situations.
