Abstract
This monograph is a study of Mentaweian ethnography with particular emphasis on the North and South Pagai Islands and Sipora. Topics include data on populations, culture history, ecology, settlement patterns, the UMA or community house, personality structure, burial practices, and religion. Special attention in this work is paid to social organization and kinship structure because the author believes that the information provided by the ethnologists Kruyt and Loeb in the 1920s and early 1930s is not clear.
