Abstract
In this article Roe describes an instance of artistic exchange in the form of trade of painted pottery between two closely related groups of Panoans -- the Shipibo and the Pisquibo. The author attempts to establish a '… link between ecological adaptation and artistic complexity, the role of geographical centrality /marginality in ethnoaesthetic judgements of microstylistic configuation, and the larger function of artistic elaboration within the regional system of ethnicity and tourism' (p. 61). The work concludes with several examples of Shipibo/Pisquibo pottery decorations.
