Abstract
This monograph provides a wide range of ethnographic information in conjunction with time allocation data for Shipibo Indians of the Peruvian Amazon. The primary focus of this work, however, is on Nuevo Eden, a village of 342 inhabitants located near the headwaters of the Pisqui River. Major topics include: geography and environment; subsistence and economics; social structure; political organization; family life; welfare, illness, and death; recreation; and religion and cosmology. Much of the ethnographic data, for the topics noted above, appear in coded form in a section of the text entitled 'cultural context checklist' in which the codes '0', '1', and '2' are used to indicate missing data, and its presence or absence in the society respectively.
