By: Reiss, W. (Wilhelm).

Abstract
This is an account of the author's visit to the Jivaro Indians living in the vicinity of Mácas, Ecuador, during the latter part of the 19th century Although the author was not a trained anthropologist, his observations of Jivaro life would in most cases do justice to an ethnologist The data recorded pertain to culture, history, geography, house types and furniture, clothing and ornament, personal cleanliness, housekeeping, physical appearance, polygny, warfare, weapons, head shrinking and associated ceremonials, and relations with neighboring tribes The source concludes with the author's suggestions as to ways and means on inducing greater cultural receptivity to 'Western civilization' among the Jivaro.
