Some Kogi models of the beyond

Abstract
This article is a comprehensive discussion of the Kogi cosmology and theological system based on interviews with several Kogi native priests. The text is replete with diagrams of various versions of Kogi cosmology, all of which have implication for serious thinking regarding the soul's journey after death. The Kogi regard death as another life in which the soul wanders within a supernatural realm, ultimately seeking reunion with the Great Mother. The success of this quest depends on the state of purification of the person at death and to the ability of priests to guide the soul when presiding over death rituals. Reichel-Dolmatoff relates the complexity of Kogi cosmology to the difficulty of the soul's wanderings, both of which reflect the ambiguity surrounding the question of what constitutes a moral life.
