By: Martini, Mary I., Kirkpatrick, John.

Abstract
This article summarizes major themes in the literature on Polynesian socialization, and offers a critical perspective, based on ethnographic fieldwork with Marquesans. The authors stress the intimacy, vigilance, and deep concern apparent in Marquesan parent-child relationships, the depth and complexity of social training children receive at the hands of other children, and practices nurturing personal autonomy in the social world (p.199).
