UMI Research Press (3) • Published In 1983 • Pages: xvii, 274

By: Kirkpatrick, John.

Abstract
This monograph is basically a theoretical and comparative study of the Marquesan understandings of persons, involving, on the part of the author, an examination of their personal development, organization, differentiation, similarity, and potentials. Following a brief social and cultural study of Marquesan ethnography (chapters 2 and 3), Kirkpatrick proceeds with his analysis of the notion of the person, followed by an overview of a few recent studies on this topic Next, problems of the analysis of ideologies are discussed, in light of which the notion of the person seems an important field of analysis. Then methodological orientations for the study are set forth, and the tasks to be attempted in later chapters of this essay are identified (p. 1).
