Abstract
The purpose of this source is '… to place early 19th century Tongan affairs into additional ethnographic perspective by means of ethnohistorical techniques' (p. 245). Using these ethnohistorical techniques, Urbanowicz addresses the problem of the effect which missionaries had on the political restructuring of Tongan society during the 19th century.
