Abstract
This source concerns the usefulness of Tongan oral traditions for historical research. The author, a Tongan historian, outlines the methods he used to elicit oral traditions and the ways he went about cross-checking and analyzing the traditional materials. The article includes a few brief examples of historical traditions to illustrate the author's methodology.
