Pan-pipes in Polynesia

journal of the Polynesian Society50 • Published In 1941 • Pages: 173-184

By: Buck, Peter Henry (Te Rangi Hiroa).

Abstract
This source contains descriptions of 5 pan-pipes from Tonga that the author examined in museum collections. The author compares the pipes with similar instruments from Samoa and other parts of the southern Pacific area. The author makes sweeping statements about migration and diffusion based on very little data and the main usefulness of this source is in its descriptions of pan-pipes rather than in its theoretical arguments.
