Abstract
In this second volume of Mariner's account of his captivity in the Tonga Islands, Mariner continues his narration of events and his eventual escape. After this he describes the system of ranking, professional classes, age and sex status, religious tenets, habits of the divine chiefs and priests; the moral state of the natives, religious rites, surgical skill, arts and manufactures, general habits, public festivals, songs and music, sports and games, and domestic habits. The work concludes with a grammar and a glossary, both Tonga-English and English-Tonga.
